As an Assistant Commodity Buyer you will work with the Produce Commodity Buyers, Replenishment Buyers and Promo Planners on ad lid requests and placement of growers orders. You will also assist the Commodity Buyer in the procurement of commodity items needed for the entire enterprise, procuring the best quality at the best possible cost.

Requirements: 
  • 2 years’ experience in either replenishment buying/procurement, merchandising, store co-management, operations, or brand management
  • Previous work experience in procurement/replenishment or store management or produce consolidation management a plus
  • Working knowledge or Itrade a plus
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form
  • Ability to work holiday's and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel independently
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Communicate with Replenishment Buyers on product availability, quality, cost, and promotional opportunities (using software systems as required).
  • Monitor, receive and process orders submitted from relevant buying center(s) or teams.
  • Monitor the progress of orders, follow up, adjust as needed, and send timely advance ship notices.
  • Negotiate ad costs with suppliers and communicate to relevant buying center(s) and Promo Planners.
  • Keep reconcile file up to date on a daily basis, handle rejections and maintain proper files.
  • Collaborate with Produce Region Specialist on commodity grouping and market changes to help implement the Division plan.
  • Seek out special buys to supplement regular sales planning. Be alert to the opportunities presented by special offerings and act upon them.
  • Maintain information on current market conditions in order to make timely purchases to the best advantage of Kroger.
  • Assist with product recalls or voluntary withdrawals for their area of responsibility in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental agencies that regulate the produce industry.
