Packing Room Manager

Job Description: 

We are currently looking for a Packing Room Manager in Philadelphia, PA.

The Packing Room Manager works under the direction of and reports directly to the Logistics Manager. He/she is responsible for the activities and efficiency of the Packing Team and is responsible to manage all production activity, including order preparation and room cleanup. The Packing Room Manager directs the work of the Assistant Packing Room Manager, Team Leaders and Packers. The Manager oversees and ensures appropriate supplies of all packing material and is responsible to maintain all tools and machines in good working order. In addition, the Manager is responsible for product quality and inventory levels. The Packing Room Manager oversees the food safety and cleanliness practices of the packing room staff and facilities. The Manager is responsible to design and implement processes for all packing tasks and to suggest material, equipment and machinery needs. In addition, the Manager is responsible to facilitate packaged product development through packaging material and shelf life testing.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Directs and schedules all activities of the packing room workers.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean packing environment at John Vena, Inc.
  • Ensures that all products leaving the packing room are top quality and condition.
  • Coordinates with the Safety Manager to enforce staff adherence to operational and food safety policies.
  • Coordinates the inventory levels of items repacked for everyday sales.
  • Manages and maintains labeling compliance according to product safety policy.
  • Participates in creation and maintenance of product traceability numbers.
  • Designs packing processes, packing lines and determines needed equipment.
  • Investigates various ways to improve packing techniques and packaging material selection.
  • Suggest packaging requirements for proposed new products and manage product testing.
  • Is responsible to maintain all packing tools and machines in a safe and clean manner.
  • Is responsible to keep an accurate inventory of all packaging supplies regularly.
  • The Packing Room Manager has the authority and responsibility to discipline his team and in addition has the power to recommend hiring and firing actions.
  • He/she is responsible to conduct annual performance review on all staff in the department.
  • Performs all tasks and duties in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and organizational needs.
  • Represents John Vena, Inc. in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.
Qualifications: 

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree or equivalent, preferred.
  • 5 years fresh produce packing experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proven ability to lead a team.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Ability to speak English and Spanish fluently preferred.
  • Must be able to work in a cold environment.
