Western Sales and Business Development Manager

Job Description: 

JFDC is looking for a new team member to assist in developing new business in the Western Region. We seek a specific focus in the southern California market to take advantage of our Los Angeles Warehouse distribution center and packing house location. Develop new opportunities and utilize your customer base to develop market opportunities for products of all types.  This job will require that you visit customers, visit our packing operations in Mexico and California, and work closely within our warehouse to discover new opportunities and solutions. 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and maintain a southern California Specific customer base
  • Develop customer base outside of LA in general Western Sates region
  • Set retail ads, set ad lids, seasonal contracts, and / or promotions
  • Support Development of Export Sales and Domestic Sales in Mexico for Mexican grown Product
  • Be willing to sell all items across JF/DC product line: (tomatoes, herbs, veg, fruit)
  • Monitor competitors, market conditions and product development opportunities
  • Know our inventory in the warehouse, anticipate aged product issues and work with the sales team to provide on-site visibility of inventory for improved decision making and grower returns
  • Work with Sales to interpret inventory availability and assist with anticipation of shorts to be able to provide proactive communication to customers or seek out solutions for procuring shorts (using procurement team or own contacts)
  • Use your market skills to develop a total understanding of our commodities for the benefit of the sales team.  Lead the charge on your designated Items.  This is a standard shared practice among the sales team.
  • Develop sales proposals: for new customers, new items
  • Conduct market research and surveys
  • Support marketing activities in SoCal and other Markets
  • Participate in sales events

Responsibilities in Southern California Region: 

  • Drive sales of product into local SoCal market
  • Identify local market opportunities, by product type and market type
    • Retail Chains
    • Single/Multi Store
    • Wholesalers
    • Foodservice
    • Jobbers  and other unique local market opportunities
  • In SoCal Market, Develop retail contracts, retail ads, set ad lids, seasonal contracts, and / or promotions across product types and qualities

Responsibilities outside Southern California Region: 

  • Identify customer responsibilities and source new opportunities: Establish and track sales goals by product type and market type outside the SoCal Market area
  • Generate Leads and share with Sales group for maximum exposure and opportunity
  • Work with NPD to explore new pack style opportunities unique to the market you are serving

  • Experience in Produce Sales
  • Spanish Speaking Preferred
  • Organic industry knowledge
