Job Description: 

We are a family owned and operated upscale grocer based in Western WY. But this is NOT a "mom and pop shop," This is an upscale, state-of-the-art, full-service store that is unique to our region. We are often compared to Wegman's, Whole Foods, Mariano's and various other nationally acclaimed grocers.

We have been a part of the local community for over 25 years and have evolved to meet the demands of not only our locals but our visitors from all over the US and the rest of the world as well. We just recently moved into our new location that is comprised of 40,000 sq ft and an amazing produce department.

Our store is made up of 60% natural and 40% conventional high quality foods. Our produce is 50/50 organic and conventional. We also provide an array of products for our customers to enjoy when they come into our store creating an exceptional shopping experience.

We are currently searching for a highly exceptional and experienced Produce Department Manager.

As a seasoned and high performing Produce Department Manager, you will be expected to develop and lead a team with your creativity, passion for the product, and quality driven leadership style. The Produce Manager provides overall management and supervision of the Produce Department. Each department within our store is treated like a business within a business. This structure and philosophy provides our people with the latitude to be creative, manage and grow their department, and still be a part of the overall team.

You will be responsible for hiring, development, terminations and accountability of your team. Responsibilities also include profitability, labor control, operating expense control, pricing and gross margin management, inventory control, shrink control and reporting, buying and merchandising, ad and sale item management, food safety and sanitation, cleaning and maintenance of all department areas, equipment and fixtures, regulatory compliance, recipe management of value added items and other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements: 
  • Demonstrated experience with 8 or more years in produce and team leadership.
  • Able to lead and motivate a diverse group of team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude and people oriented.
  • Excellent merchandising skills and eye for detail.
  • Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented with effective time management skills.
  • Understand and communicate quality goals and product information to customers.
  • Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness.
  • Strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Proper handling of dept related equipment.
  • Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office programs (especially in Excel for pricing and inventory management).
  • Ability to learn new software systems,ie. back office management system, culinary management program.
  • Material experience in managing and buying from vendors.
  • Material experience in developing and managing retail pricing and gross margins (in Excel), including pricing strategies across products and categories.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Assure your entire team gives every customer immediate, undivided, positive and extra-mile attention. Surprise and delight customers with consistent, fresh and high quality produce and other related food and non-food merchandise.
  • Interview, select, train, evaluate, counsel, discipline and terminate team members.
  • Create a labor schedule to leverage productivity within the needs of the department.
  • Develop and maintain a creative department layout and product merchandising in support of store vision and themes.
  • Achieve required sales, margin, expense and labor targets.
  • Know product availability, culinary uses, handling, seasonality, logistics, vendors, storage and sources.
  • Ensure department orders for equipment, supplies and products are timely and accurate.
  • Keep all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated.
  • Maintain accurate retail pricing and signage.
  • Conduct scheduled inventories and submit reports (monthly or as requested).
  • Communicate company goals and information to team members.
  • Keep Store Leadership informed of all events that affect the department.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships and negotiate costs and manage logistics.
  • Have a firm understanding of department financials and labor budgets.
  • Schedule and lead department team meetings; attend store meetings.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Other duties may be assigned by leadership.
