The Buyer is responsible for the sourcing of fresh produce, in a quantity and quality that will allow Heeren Bros., Inc. to meet or exceed strategic net sales goals, simultaneously fulfilling all customer requirements. The Buyer shall be responsible for managing the physical inventory stocks, emphasizing proper quantity levels, while maintaining superior product quality. The Buyer shall be responsible for identifying prospective new vendors and new product items. Consistently seek hot items to promote "special" items each week with the goal of passing along opportunities to open new business and deals to our customers. Work closely with carriers/shippers as well as with the Company's buyer/sales staff to maximize loads to manage cost basis of items.
- Minimum 3 years of Purchasing experience in Produce
- Excellent verbal & written communications skills
- Excellent computer skills, able to work with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Email.
- Ability to master Produce Pro to order
- 4 year degree (preferred)
- Work with the Lead Buyer to analyze & monitor sales data, trends, seasonality and economic conditions to anticipate consumer-buying patterns & determine what the company will sell and how much inventory is necessary.
- Superior knowledge of produce specific information such as seasons, inflation / deflation cycles, vendors, and pricing.
- Examine, select, order and purchase products at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other established factors.
- Responsible for the management of inventory purchased by daily review of item usage, sales, inventory adjustments, and the creation of purchase orders to replenish inventory.
- Work in collaboration with upper management on any additional projects.

- Source special order items as requested
