Research and Development Specialist

Job Description: 

We are currently seeking an experienced Research and Development Specialist in Salinas, California. This person will be responsible for designing experiments and collecting and analyzing data to support new product development initiatives and goals.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develop and execute high level experiments related to improving safety and quality of fruits and vegetables.
  • Collect data using analytical equipment and observational assessment.
  • Perform experimental data analysis.
  • Prepare graphs, charts, videos, presentations, reports, and other materials to communicate results and findings from experiments.
  • Develop and manage research projects including multi-departmental stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and academia on compliance and claims matters.
  • Work with customers on implementation of various technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Agricultural Science-related field, such as Food Science, Crop Science, Agriculture, or similar.
Physical Demand:
  • Required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Physical effort required (ability to move 50 lbs. from one area to another).
  • Exposure to extreme heat and cold environments.
Work Environment:
  • Work performed in an office, field and production facility environment.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Smoke-free work environment.

 

Qualifications: 

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Agricultural Science-related field, such as Food Science, Crop Science, Agriculture, or similar.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications, notably MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a practical research role, preferably in the area of food safety and quality of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree, such as a Master’s and/or Ph.D an Agricultural Science-related field, such as Food Science, Crop Science, Agriculture, or similar.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to write and communicate in Spanish.
  • More than four (4) years of experience in a practical research role, preferably in the area of food safety and quality of fresh fruits and vegetables.
