Refrigeration Technician

Job Description: 

Growers Express, LLC one of California’s leading producers, marketers and distributors of premium quality vegetables located in Salinas.

Refrigiration Technician, to perform skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of District heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and related equipment and facilities.  Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment. This position will be out of our Gonzales Cooler Facility, and will report directly to the Director of Maintenance.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Candidate must have ammonia refrigeration experience or refrigeration experience.
  • RETA Certification or equivalent technical training is a plus.
  • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • The ability to perform in a fast paced environment.
  • Candidate should have experience with screw and reciprocating compressor, HVAC units, air compressors and associated control systems.
  • Assist in the Preventative Maintenance Program using work orders issued by Supervision and documenting work performed on equipment to maintain in operation
  • Responsible for daily check of cold room temperatures
  •  Daily adjustments of equipment in a Safe Manner as needed during production
  • Familiar with start-up and shut down processes in production plants
  • Ability to use lock out / tag out process to isolate equipment prior to working on unit.
  • Ability to trouble shoot electrical components with meter when equipment is down
  • Establish schedule for the replacement of parts without disrupting process unless repair cannot be performed safely.
  • Able to assist maintenance crews outside the scope of refrigeration when needed to insure timely responses to breakdowns during production
  • Advices maintenance manager of parts need to be replaced when there is an equipment breakdown.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education: 
  • Mechanic must have high school diploma or equivalent.
Skills: 
  • Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Must be able to write simple correspondence. 
  • Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
  • Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Frequently entering in and out of cold room environment with exposure to temperatures between 32 to 38 degrees for one to two hours at a time

  • Welding skills are a plus but, not required.
  • Will need to drive forklift.
