We have a new opening for an Operations Manager in Salinas, CA with travel to Yuma, AZ.

As an Operations Manager you will be responsible for managing and assisting in the day to day operations of the processing plant, production, shipping and receiving. Your main focus will be placed on human safety, food safety, quality, maintenance, and creating an environment of mutual respect.

You will direct and coordinate activities of organization to obtain optimum efficiency, economy of operations and maximize profits. You will work with Sr. Management to plan, develop and implement organization policies and goals.  You are also responsible for coordinating activities with departments, such as production, packaging, processing, quality control, planning, sales, maintenance, accounting, raw product procurement, and research and development, to affect operational efficiency and economy.

You will analyze department budget requests to identify areas in which reductions can be made, and allocate an operating budget. You will work with administrative personnel, and review activities, operations, and sales reports to determine if changes in programs or operations are required. You will direct preparation of directives to division or department managers and administrators outlining policy, program, or operations changes that are to be implemented and promote organization in industry, manufacturing or trade associations.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor degree in Agriculture, manufacturing, processing, or related discipline preferred.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years’ work experience in production operations roles with 3 years in senior production management roles.
  • Knowledge of time sensitive, value added, precision-production operations is a plus.
  • Related work experience in a production/processing/environment preferably produce in a lead capacity in inventory management, warehouse operations, or shipping/receiving operation. 
  • Proven record of people management in production environment.
  • Understanding of plant operations and packaging environment.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to provide training, coaching, and feedback to provide sustainable productivity and quality from the plant.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent writing communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft Excel skills required.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint required.
  • Must have ability to use or learn the NAV (Navision) computer system.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to growers, customers, clients, sales, upper management and other employees of the organization is essential.
  • Budget and P&L experience.
  • Outstanding project management and planning skills. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Demonstrated analytical, reasoning, self-motivation, problem solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent influencing, cooperation, and negotiation skills and the ability to use them appropriately.
  • Effectively resolve cross-departmental issues in partnership with company leadership.
  • Assume responsibility for on-time delivery, consistent quality, and cost containment.
  • Ensure that proper procedures, practices, documentation, training, and audits are in place and are executed.

  • Seasonal travel to Yuma, AZ required.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Manage, supervise, guide and coordinate department managers. 
  • Coordinate information required for the facility to operate within parameters established by County, State, Federal, National and International regulations as they apply.
  • Oversee and review day to day operations.
  • Provide training, coaching, and feedback to provide sustainable productivity and quality within processing plant.
  • Work with the Human Resources department to screen and train personnel.
  • Utilize manpower within site for most effective plant operation.
  • Promote team approach to site challenges and develop solutions.
  • Manage the plant quality programs; follow and coach Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Manage and maintain good manufacturing practices.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment for all employees, following safety guidelines and provide site safety training.
  • Assist in sustainability solutions to quality and production issues.
  • Control costs associated with plant operations and inform site manager on these costs.
  • Analyze plant operations and make recommendation for site capital improvement.
  • Carry out other activities and responsibilities as directed to maximize plant operations.
