Job Description: 

Get Fresh Sales ensures the availability of the highest quality fruits and vegetables at all times to Nevada's most discriminating restaurateurs, and provides the highest level of food safety at all times. We inventory and distribute a full line of fresh fruits and vegetables and currently stock over 1500 line items in various pack sizes to meet your needs. Our experience and volume allows us to work closely with the growers on the direct purchasing programs, and allows us to eliminate brokers and terminal produce markets.

As an Experienced Buyer you are responsible for securing cost-effective quality products, and delivering competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt, and inventory control of the products as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of produce experience and strong commodities knowledge, including vegetable, fruit and herbs.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in business administration, economics, and/or management.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 to 10 years of purchasing experience in the Produce Industry or Food Service Industry.   
  • Strong commodities knowledge, including vegetable, fruit and herbs.
  • Personal computer skills, mainframe operations as it relates to procurement, related software, and knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes required.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications skill set.
  • Ability to verbally communicate effectively and clearly; decision making ability; must be able to organize and prioritize multiple tasks; effective time management and open work schedule.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours a week and some Saturdays, as business requires. Rotating schedules at times.
  • Open availability and ability to work varied hours with early start times.  
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Secure and analyze quotations; negotiate prices and terms with suppliers; recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
  • Confer with existing vendors to obtain product information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Must possess good knowledge of fresh produce including seasonality and geography of fresh produce supply.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, technology and food safety.
  • Minimize shrinkage and spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Excellent computer skills, AS400, word, excel, 10-key and must be able to prepare purchase orders or bid requests as required.
  • Communicate with vendors to find out status of an order.
  • Communicate effectively to all department supervisors and at all levels of the organization.
  • Contact vendors regarding discrepancies with quantity and quality.
  • Interface with all departments and resolve problems and issues; must be able to build teams and establish relationships.
  • Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Communicate favorable purchasing opportunities to management.
