Job Description: 

G. Cefalu and Bro. is seeking all levels of local delivery Drivers (Class A, B and C classifications) in Jessup, Maryland.
The position is responsible for complying with safe operations of the Company’s local transportation fleet while handling pick-ups from suppliers and/or deliveries to the Company’s customers.  This is an interactive position where relationships with the Company’s customer contacts is critical to the success and profitability of the Company.  Professional, courteous and knowledgeable communication is necessary.  This position is responsible for maintaining the Company’s vehicles in a clean, safe and well-maintained manner, and report anything short of that.  Drivers are responsible to operate their vehicles in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining compliance with all company, local, state and federal laws, rules and policies.  Drivers are responsible for the accuracy of their on-board inventories, communicating clearly and consistently with the Dispatch Team, accurate route running, and timely return to the facility.  This position will responsibly report accurate information on returns, quality issues, or customer concerns.

Requirements: 
  • Must have a valid, state issued driver’s license.
  • Must pass a driving skills practical test administered by company check driver or the Transportation Manager.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of trucks and safe operation of them.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must have graduated high school or equivalency or 4 or more years’ truck driving experience.
  • Must be physically able to climb, sit, kneel, bend, push, and pull repetitively over a period of up 12 hours.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds repetitively.
  • Must be capable of passing a DOT physical.

Standards of Performance
The specific responsibilities and standards of performance are as follows:

  • 99% on-time delivery, with 99% delivery accuracy.
  • No motor vehicle violations, accidents, or vehicle damage.
  • No customer complaints.
  • 100% Driver Check-In accuracy.
  • 100% Compliance with DOT, and all company policies, including Dress Policy.
  • Maintain active communications with company, and accessibility – at all times.
  • Customer satisfaction level.
  • Never complete your day and leave with company property [keys, EZ pass, company phone, customer payment].
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Shall arrive to work promptly – every shift and is required to Clock IN/OUT each day.
    • Verify all items are loaded on vehicle including Produce, Seafood and Eaches/Broken items.
  • Shall operate the Company’s delivery trucks with integrity.
    • Make sure you have all required equipment (GPS, Full Uniform, Safety Shoes, Hand Truck, pen(s), Flashlight, Tire Pressure Gauge).
    • Must comply with all company policies, local, state, and federal laws, or will be subject to appropriate disciplinary actions.
    • Perform thorough pre and post trip inspection(s) and complete DVIR form.
    • Will communicate with the Transportation Manager regarding vehicle issues, accidents, customer challenges, alterations in customer’s desired delivery windows, or other challenges.  These issues must be verbally communicated with Dispatch – DO NOT LEAVE VOICE MESSAGES.
  • Shall run delivery routes according to manifest provided by Dispatch Team.
    • Maintain best planned route and operate vehicle within posted speed limits.
    • Review route plan and complete manifest questions (mileage, hours, etc.)  Both pre and post trip.
    • Follow the below outlined procedures at each delivery stop:
      • Arrive at each stop on time, park vehicle as safely as practical, contact dispatch if delivery is delayed by 15 minutes or more.
      • Review order paperwork, accurately select product from on-board inventory
      • Unload product safely and remember to close and lock truck between hand truck or pallet jack loads (maintaining security and temperature control is important)
      • Deliver the products to the customer as customer requests IE: stacked on floor, placed in walk-in, upstairs to the kitchen etc.
      • Monitor quantities to insure accuracy to order amounts and products – read labels
      • Check required payment process IE: Credit, COD, COD Cash, COD Do Not Drop
      • Complete all paperwork and have customer sign the “Office” copy. Collect funds if required.
      • After the last stop, proceed to vehicle fueling facility and, if necessary, DEF filling station.
      • Return to office, back to dock, empty all trash, pallets and returned product from truck and cab. Lock up all your personal/company equipment (i.e: Hand truck, Pallet Jack, Tie Highs)
      • Must sign the Sanitation Log
      • Must return all EZ Passes, Keys, and Company Phone to Driver Check-In Clerks
  • Shall maintain a professional relationship with all customers and suppliers.
    • Will understand that the customer is the root of the Company’s success, and the proper handling of the product, as well as the communication is imperative.
    • Shall respect the needs of the Company’s customers.  Comply with all reasonable requests to entice customers to want to do business with the Company.
  • Shall communicate clearly with Dispatch Team at all times.
    • With daily distributed Company phone on a daily basis, staying in touch with the Company through the Dispatch Team is mandatory.
    • Must immediately report any customer issues, including but not limited to short shipped product, mis-picked product, subpar product, or any other customer concern.
    • Will be required to have company phone on, and promptly reply to Dispatch through the day.  Unanswered calls must be returned in a timely manner, so as to best serve the Company’s customers.
    • If any routing changes are required/recommended, discuss with Transportation Manager.
  • Shall adhere to all Driver Check-in Procedures, including:
    • Sweep and sanitize cargo section of truck.  Sign truck cleaning log. Turn in all paperwork, credits, checks, monies to truck check-in desk. Leaving the facility with any customer payment is prohibited, and will not be tolerated.  Disciplinary action will follow if a driver leaves the facility with any customer payment.
    • Return truck to designated parking area and RETURN keys, EZ Passes & Company Phones.
    • NOTE: Any missing keys will be charged to the Driver, and the cost [$25 from Penske] will be withdrawn from the Driver’s pay.
    • The pallet jacks MUST be returned to the charging area, and connected to recharge, when you use them.
    • Check information boards, company email and notices.  Punch Out and leave facility.
