Job Description: 

Fusion Marketing, founded in 1997, is a trusted and experienced partner to fresh produce, perishable suppliers and trade associations across the county. We are a marketing and sales solutions company specializing in customized marketing and sales intelligence, programs and services.  We provide a high level of dedicated customer support and winning solutions tailored to the unique business needs of each client.

Our collaborative approach uncovers growth opportunities by turning information into actionable, customized, easy-to-understand marketing and sales solutions that grow brand, category and retail sales. We provide to our clients - category management, shopper insights and research, consumer and retail research, sales promotions, trade advertising and communications (PR).

We are searching for a Director of Sales and Business Development in Chatsworth, CA. who will personally develop new sales. The position will report directly to the President of Fusion Marketing, and is a senior level, client facing role, responsible for developing a sales pipeline that leads to increased sales from new clients in order to reach and exceed the company’s sales and financial goals.

This position is responsible for selling a wide range of customized marketing and sales solutions to senior level decision makers in the fresh produce and perishables industry with two primary areas of focus:

  • Build and maintain sales revenue from a continuous pipeline of new clients
  • Grow Fusion Marketing’s relationship and business portfolio once new clients are established

In both areas, the position is accountable for achieving sales quotas and business goals, and for unlocking value by building long-term relationships with clients in accord with overall Fusion Marketing business strategies and goals.

Sales success will lead to the position developing, training and managing a sales team to support and grow the company’s increasing revenue stream.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Sales Leadership

  • Work with the senior leadership team to develop annual sales goals and plan
  • Assess and demonstrate an understanding of client structure, priorities, objectives and stakeholders
  • Regularly share client intelligence and feedback with Fusion Marketing leadership
  • Provide sales inputs to Fusion Marketing’s client planning process; collaborate with leadership in the development and execution of the plan
  • Build deep, long-term business relationships with client decision makers and key staff, and serve as the primary contact for assigned accounts and prospects for all sales-related issues
  • Understand and report regularly on emerging trends, activities and competitive intelligence in the fresh produce/perishables industry that impacts clients and Fusion Marketing
  • Champion Fusion Marketing values internally, with clients and with industry stakeholders; operate with integrity, support others and foster a culture of service and client value creation
  • Develop, negotiate and manage 3rd party business development initiatives that are consistent with the company’s overall strategy

Solutions Selling

  • Demonstrate consultative sales and negotiating skills by developing and closing sales with informed strategic business solutions that meet client needs and deliver returns to Fusion Marketing
  • Articulate and leverage the value proposition of Fusion Marketing’s entire portfolio of services
  • Create alignment on projects and services by facilitating communications between company’s subject-matter experts and client/prospect decision makers and staff
  • Professionally develop and deliver formal/informal presentations to clients, prospects and industry

Pipeline Management

  • Identify companies and organizations that fit Fusion Marketing’s target definition
  • Build awareness and favorable impression of Fusion Marketing among industry leaders  
  • Drive the pre-sales process of lead identification and qualification with targets; developing qualified leads into high-potential opportunities that fit Fusion Marketing’s business model, strategies and capabilities
  • Develop and report timeframes and revenue forecasts to Fusion Marketing leadership for qualified, high-potential opportunities in the pipeline
Qualifications: 
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible solutions-selling experience across a broad range of marketing and sales functions
  • Fresh produce or perishables experience strongly preferred
  • College degree required
  • Proven and quantified record of revenue generation and sales goal accomplishment
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment in generating revenue from new business  
  • Proven record of success with account relationship management and sales negotiation
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Experience with complex service or solution sales involving multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with proprietary/syndicated research, retail and shopper insights and analytics, strategic marketing, trade marketing, communications, PR and advertising, shopper marketing and retail sales
  • Experience in fiscal management including budgets, revenue projections, cost control
  • Travel required

Relocation is not a requirement of the position.  However, we are open to relocating the right candidate. If relocating for the position, you must live within a radius of 7 miles from the office - a relocation allowance will be provided for expenses. We are located in the northeastern most part of Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, right on the Ventura County line.
