Onion Plant Manager

Job Description: 

Four Star Ag is a family owned partnership that grows, packs and ships red and yellow onions. We are currently seeking an experienced Plant Manager to join our packing operation in Oakes, North Dakota. This position requires strong attention to detail in regards to monitoring orders, managing employees and needs to be a highly motivated, ethical and responsible manager.
Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Manage all aspects of warehouse, packing plant and work cooperatively with other members of our management team
  • Seek out information on a daily basis to effectively address concerns regarding onion packing, machinery maintenance, packing plant personnel and any operational issues that may impact the efficiency of our plant
  • Perform or oversee daily inspection and routine maintenance to insure that all 3 coolers are functioning properly
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies, hold regular personnel meetings as needed to address company issues and policies
  • Manage warehouse, assign daily duties and tasks, proactively seek out potential personnel and mechanical issues that would otherwise affect the efficient operation of the plant, create and promote a positive, respectful work environment
  • Manage and lead the packing plant personnel to efficiently and accurately process onions, pack onions, and maintain a clean, safe and secure working environment
  • Load or supervise loading of delivery trucks and manage the movement of product into and out of facility, insuring proper storage, handling and distribution. Plan and execute repacks accordingly
  • Manage onion inventory, insuring proper product rotation, labeling and quality inspection
  • Work closely with human resource department on personnel matters and record keeping
  • Must be prepared to work long hours during peak season

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
  • A minimum of 5 years of warehouse operations experience, minimum of 2 years personnel management experience
  • Prior produce and/or food service industry experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound decisions and solve problems
