Job Description:
Looking for a Prepared Foods "Ready to Eat" Specialist.
Position Reports to:
Deli Manager/ Deli Associates
Requirements:
- Experience working in a retail environment buying (food preferred), demonstrates merchandising ability and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Initiate and develop new culinary products, refinements and food showings. Drive research and food ideation in accordance with brand, trend, labor difficulty and price.
- Constantly review product upgrades to improve execution, profit, and correlation.
- Compile and present strategic recommendations directly impacting all culinary operations to senior management.
- Participate on the menu teams and collaborate with Training for all food rollouts.
- Consult directly with senior management on culinary projects and troubleshooting.
- Partner with Marketing to balance quality, value, and excitement by identifying the best options for new and existing menu vehicles including current menu and any other assigned tasks.
- Regularly conduct culinary research or training in the corporate commissary (Hunts Point)
- Respond in person to customer requests, as appropriate.
- Manage the Nutritional information provided to Fairway customers (CBORD)
- Recommend satellite (in store) kitchen lay-out and recommend equipment or kitchen flow improvements.
- Oversee projects with supply management regarding outside manufacturing companies requiring company culinary direction and focus (private label).
- Coordinate with fresh food buyer for cuttings and specification determinations.
- Accountable for regular competitor price comparisons, ensuring Fairway’s position in the deli market is maintained according to the company pricing strategy.
- Support and assist VP of Fresh Foods as needed.
- Maintain quality control.
- Execute all deli store fresh food marketing tactics. This includes but not limited to: correct signage, local advertising leaflets and in-store sales.
- Accountable for supporting the deli Department Managers in maintaining an inventory of merchandise in all stores that maximizes profitability.
- Train, develop and counsel new and existing deli managers in a manner which builds and sustains a high performing team.
- Communicate and maintain employee safety, sanitation, food safety and security standards.
- Accountable for the accuracy of product labeling (date code, ingredients, barcode and price where applicable).
- Accountable for deli shrink, working with the Department managers in store to minimize waste.
- Assist VP of Fresh Foods in meeting or exceeding financial targets.
- Assist in the forecast for purchasing requirements over holidays.
- Establish and maintain collaborative and productive working relationships with all members of the Fairway team.
- Lead weekly meetings with each Deli Department Manager.
- Assures all employees comply with prescribed operating and safety standards.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills required with enthusiasm and initiative.
- Regulatory Compliance. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of, and ensure compliance with relevant regularity rules and standards, including:

OSHA, New York State Department of Labor, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, Department of Consumer Affairs, Weights and Measures, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), H.A.C.C.P. Guidelines.
Education:
College degree preferred.
