In line with our Enza/Turners & Growers Pipfruit growth plan, we have identified North America as one of our key growth territories.

To achieve this growth we have recognized the need to establish a General Manager accountable for establishing the NAM office and providing a platform for the implementation of the Enza/T&G Pipfruit strategic growth plan.

In this role the GM will be managing a Pipfruit business and will be reporting to the Executive General Manager of Pipfruit. The role is responsible for all aspects of the business including the ability to lead, establishing a cohesive team, a sound overview of the sales and marketing structure, plus the profitability of the NAM business.

The role is also accountable for managing growers, managing the Plant Varietal Rights (PVR) growth and ensuring robust and increasing Pipfruit supply, while maintaining or improving grower returns. The role will also be responsible for implementing a financial information package that will be ready in time for the 2015 season.

The ideal candidate must have the ability to inspire and build a team that works together cohesively, be a strategic thinker, as well as maintain and grow relationships.

The role will be based in the growing region in Washington e.g. Yakima or Wenatchee.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Strategic Category Management

  • Responsible for implementing the NAM Pipfruit category strategic plan and delivering expediential growth to an agreed level of profitability.
  • Responsible for the NAM Pipfruit category performance, financial performance and for meeting or exceeding growth targets for the category.
  • Increasing and developing profitable new crops/plantings to ensure product volume meets demand trends.
  • Other projects and activities at the request of the Executive General Manager – Pipfruit.

Supply Chain Strategy and Planning

  • Manage the NAM supply chain of products in the Pipfruit category including the development of yearly and longer term supply programs.
  • Manage the implementation of the post-harvest, sales and marketing plans ensuring Pipfruit products are strategically and efficiently managed end to end.
  • Ensure new strategies, technology and directions regarding supply chain management are identified, utilized and maximizes returns for T&G and growers.

Grower Relationships

  • Develop strong and trusted grower relationships and profitability whilst maintaining inclusive and valued relationships.
  • Explore and identify new partnerships with growers based on well considered demand and supply analysis.
  • Conduct business reviews with existing growers, providing growers with best practice or improved orchard management techniques to enhance grower returns.
  • Develop & maintain a system to ensure regular contact with key growers of the “Club”.
  • Sensitively manage & develop grower and industry relationships.  Increasing and developing profitable new grower relationships (Franchise Agreements) to ensure product volume meets demand trends.
  • Develop risk management framework and decision rules for all NAM grower activity.
  • Identify and lead any acquisition or divestment activity.

Sales Management

  • Oversee sales and marketing of NAM Pipfruit.
  • Identify and select marketing agencies that can maximize sustainable grower returns.
  • Implement a formal market planning structure enabling robust decision making.
  • Manage the promotional plans and administer in association with T&G marketing and agencies.

Financial Management

  • Manage and control departmental expenditure within agreed budgets.
  • Direct short-term and long range planning and budget development to support strategic business goals.
  • In conjunction with the Executive General Manager - Pipfruit prepare operating budgets & forecasts supported with sound business strategies & plans.
  • Develop, provide and enhance reporting to manage the category performance for the Executive and Board and any reporting requirements as requested.
  • Report monthly on costs versus budget, providing commentary on variances and key issues influencing results.
  • Manage assets effectively – including any capex investments.
  • Ensure the category complies with group and local, legal and commercial requirements.

People Leadership and Development

  • Develop and maintain a culture of health and safety, championing the delivery of our health and safety objectives and policies and ensuring the safety of our people, contractors and customers.

Key Relationships

Internal: Executive Team, NAM Team, Enza Marketing NAM, Enza Product Development Team, Senior Managers and others across business divisions and regions.

External: Product Growers within NAM, Key suppliers including trees/budwood, Local government and industry bodies, Legal Advisors for the Program, Customers/Key Accounts.

  • A sound understanding of industry & trade (horticulture preferred)
  • Driver’s License

Education and Experience 

  • Tertiary qualification in horticulture, business or commerce preferred.
  • 15+ year’s operations/produce experience in a similar or same industry, having held substantial responsibility for significant product lines or categories.
  • Significant P&L responsibility and managed large and complex product categories.
  • Commercial understanding and experience demonstrating growth of a substantial category or product.
