Under the general guidance of the Director, Global Fruit, the Grower Relations- Import Specialist manages and controls the flow of fruit commodities from origin through the import process to the warehouse. This position acts as a coordinator and liaison between international and domestic suppliers, in-house and outside warehouse operations, Transportation and Sales Team. Fluency in Spanish is required (both verbal and written). Frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts required.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Reviews, files and maintains applicable point-of-origin shipping documentation, including but not limited to manifests, bills of lading, pallet/packing lists.  Audits documentation for accuracy. Follows up and resolves discrepancies; escalates issues to appropriate business partner and/or senior management as needed.

  • Audits documents and identifies and resolves manifest discrepancies with shippers (i.e. missing pallet tags, incorrect box labels or PLU’s, wrong size, issues with quality, etc).

  • Communicates and works with existing growers and interacts with and helps assess new grower prospects.

  • Reviews and analyzes product availability, pricing strategy, packaging, and logistics with the Sales Team.

  • Monitors inbound shipments to ensure compliance with import regulations.

  • Provides shipping information and required documentation to appropriate parties including U.S. customs brokers, expeditors, inspectors and warehouses.

  • Works closely with the Sales Team and Shippers/Growers to schedule, coordinate and align inbound shipments with product demand, customer requirements and sales needs.

  • Enters PL/POs and corresponding manifests and ETA into the system. Verifies accuracy and updates shipment status information in the system as needed.

  • Coordinates and monitors regulatory inspections (USDA, in-house and third party inspectors) and initiates the release of goods.

  • Monitors inbound shipments, providing shipping information, required documentation and ETA details to appropriate parties including inside/outside sales team, customs brokers, expeditors, inspectors and warehouses.

  • Coordinates the scheduling of freight forwarding with the in-house transportation team from the point of delivery (port, border, and packing house) to the final destination and/or third party storage facilities.

  • Prepares and distributes invoices and shipment detail to internal accounting team for processing and payment. Provides accounting support as-needed. 

  • Responds to and resolves after hours calls, problems and emergencies.

  • Cooperate with supervisors and managers and ensure compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21 - Section 110. 

Education: 
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Finance, Business Administration, International Business or related field from a four-year college or university preferred.
Skills: 
  • Transportation & Logistics - Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits; ability to anticipate related problems and provide solutions.
  • Customer and Personal Service Knowledge - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present to multi-level audiences; bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Computer skills – understanding of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP).
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Qualifications: 
Three to five years of import/export experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority; at least two years of related experience in import/export of international fruit or produce. Experience in Grower Relations required.
