Cost Analyst

Job Description: 

Earthbound Farm Organic is currently seeking a Cost Analyst to join their team in San Juan Bautista, CA. Reporting to the Cost Accounting Supervisor, the Cost Analyst provides operational metrics analysis results to assist senior management in decision making or other financial initiatives. This individual is responsible for monitoring, analyzing and reporting on inventory valuation, production, variances and various other costs. This role will assist in monthly financial close by tracking inventory cost, maintaining databases, preparing journal entries, reviewing account balances, reconciling accounts and thoroughly analyzing accounts to ensure proper classification of cost transactions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (ear plugs, hard hats, coveralls, smocks, gloves, goggles, and other GMP required equipment; hair net, beard net).
  • Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Prepare KPI Operations Metric Reporting, reconcile and analyze metrics that evaluate company performance, while meeting reporting deadlines. 
  • Prepare inventory journal entries, review account balances and thoroughly analyze accounts to verify proper classification of transactions in preparation of month-end closing processes
  • Assist in reconciling general ledger accounts and maintain reconciliation schedules and work with multiple cross-functioning departments to resolve accounting discrepancies. 
  • Maintain several internal databases used for cost and inventory purposes. 
  • Work cross functionally to enhance and expand on current cost reporting in our database reporting systems.
  • Prepare month end cost variance reports to explain the cause of variances and implement processes that minimize variances.
  • Perform project analyses to better understand cost and drive optimal resource allocation and business decisions.
  • Assist in Maintaining and updating SKU Cost Models.
  • Assist in working with Buyers in identifying slow moving Inventory and maintain related files and schedules.
  • Assist with preparation of schedules requested by a team of 3 or 4 external financial auditors
  • Proactively assist team members, managers and employees as needed.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Detail Oriented – Attention to detail, ability to focus on the project or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results.
Education: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with Finance or Accounting concentration preferred.
Skills: 

Computer Skills / Special Equipment Knowledge:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Advanced Excel capabilities; spreadsheet creation and maintenance, formulas, V-Lookups, and exporting data required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Generally, a business casual office environment that involves the extensive use of office equipment, such as computers and telephones. May have some exposure to a cold and wet manufacturing environment (34-36 degrees F), the smell of chlorine, outdoor weather conditions, heavy machinery, forklift traffic and loud noises.

Qualifications: 

Related Experience, Qualifications and/or Certifications:

  • Two (2) years of cost accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or food processing environment.
