Job Description: 

Earl’s Organic Produce, Inc., a leading distributor of organic produce throughout Northern California, seeks a broadly-skilled Fruit Buyer for our San Francisco Wholesale Produce Market headquarters.
 
Under the direction of the Director of Purchasing, the selected candidate will execute daily fruit purchasing activities, in order to address the quality and promotional requirements of our customers, as well as the product movement needs of our vendor-stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities will include:

  • Resolving arrival issues, in collaboration with the QA Manager
  • Managing shipment logistical arrangements, as needed
  • Communicating pertinent supply, quality and promotional information to Purchasing and Sales team members in a timely and detailed manner, both verbally and in written forms
  • Enlarging relationships with existing vendors
  • Forging relationships with new vendors
  • Assisting Sales with large volume deals
  • Assist category buying
  • Update and set Ad pricing for daily price sheets
  • Communicate with the Sales Department daily shorts/tight items
  • Report daily QC/Receiving issues to Sales Dept.
  • Report daily push items to Sales Dept.
  • Update Sale/Purchasing about emerging products and opportunities

Secondary Responsibilities will include:

  • Create and Maintain weekly newsletter
  • Procure and Develop small/local farm(s) commodities
  • Acquire National sales accounts (fruit)
  • Acquire/pursue restaurant accounts

Requirements: 
  •  B.A./B.S., or equivalent work experience
  •  5 years hands-on fresh Organic produce experience, preferably in a purchasing role
  •  Organized, even-tempered communication skills
  •  Positive approach to alternate points of view; an ability to create agreement
  •  Strong networking ability
  •  Attentiveness to detail
  •  Short emotional memory
  •  Interest in the history and development of the organic produce industry
  •  Desire to grow individually and to learn how to best support other team members
  •  Facility with inventory database programs and basic desktop application software
  •  Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. on a regular basis
