Employee Safety & Risk Management Supervisor

Job Description: 

Duncan Family Farms seasonally employs in excess of 300 field, cooling, transportation and administrative employees in its farming operations in California and Arizona. The Company takes very seriously its responsibility to maintain a safe and productive work environment for every employee. This position is responsible for oversight and administration of our Employee Safety, Workers Compensation and Risk Management Administration efforts. This includes but is not limited to developing, outlining and implementing training programs about employee safety procedures and accident protection and prevention. This position coordinates the administration of our worker’s compensation program including claims monitoring and administration, report generation, and communication with employees, managers, insurance carriers and medical personnel. The position reports directly to the HR Manager and works closely with all crew leaders, supervisors, managers and employees of the Company in the execution of our Employee Safety and Risk Management programs.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Lead responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining the Company’s Employee Safety and Risk Management Program.
  • Maintains current knowledge base of all federal, California and Arizona employment and employee safety regulations.
  • Administers the Company’s worker compensation insurance programs and liaise with insurers, brokers and consultants.
  • Properly maintain all injury/claim files through to their ultimate disposition.
  • Develops, executes and documents compliance with all training programs intended to prevent workplace illnesses and injuries.
  • Supports Company management, supervisors and crew leaders in their respective roles and responsibilities for maintaining a safe and risk-free environment at the Company.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, follow up on all work related injuries and illnesses.
  • Investigate work injuries and ensures proper claims reporting to our workers’ compensation carrier.
  • Ensures timely filing of all Worker Comp claims in a timely manner with workers’ compensation carrier.
  • Maintain of all injury/claim files.
  • Attend all hearings and depositions on claims and participate in regular open claims reviews.
  • Work with brokers, insurer and consultation in managing frequency and severity of claims and providing information and status reports on open claims in a timely manner.
  • Maintain full compliance of all OSHA/Cal-OSHA logs and statutory reporting.
  • Maintain and update all Company MSDS and related forms.
  • Train (and document compliance governing) worker protection policies and procedures to all employees.
  • Train (and document compliance governing) the insurance of all pesticide handler cards.
  • Working in conjunction with FDSF and the Company Spray Supervisor, manage pesticide safety compliance including the proper state and federal postings/notices.
  • Develops and executes all post-accident investigation, corrective action, training and related actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain and adhere to Company’s Employee Handbook and oversee the administration and execution of programs, policies and procedures related to handbook.
  • Responsible for ensuring Farm Security including the hiring and oversight of third-party security contractors.
Education: 
  • Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university.
Qualifications: 
  • 2-3 years in human resources with a concentration on worker’s compensation and risk management.
  • Bilingual required (written/verbal/cultural) in English and Spanish.
  • Strong computer skills, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Able to set priorities, execute and deliver on commitments even with high degree of uncertainty, ambiguity and continuous change.
  • Must have strong organizational, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent technical, communication (oral and written) and relationship skills are required.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
