Job Description: 

Deardorff Family Farms “DFF” is an innovative fourth generation family business based in Oxnard, California that is engaged in the growing, packing, shipping and marketing of fresh vegetables.  Our mission is to engage in Sustainable Farming for a Healthier Life!  This includes a commitment to the people we employ and our surrounding communities. 

We are now looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our team and help ensure we are meeting these goals by providing top tier support for all of our human resources activities.

As a Human Resources Generalist, you will be well versed in all areas of human resources protocol for a farming operation. You will have the experience and knowledge to be able to direct your own work, play a key role in the company, and will report directly to the owners of DFF.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of progressively responsible experience for a farming company in human resources. 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, management, and leadership skills.
  • Conflict resolution, problem solving, and mediation skills.
  • Ability to relate to other employees that are being serviced is critical. 
  • Ability to identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations, and ensure that policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance. 
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Act as the point person for all employee relations including issues of pay, benefits, training, sick leave, family medical leave, vacation, time off, return to work, worker’s compensation, medical insurance, lay-offs and all other employment questions.
  • Responsible for all hiring practices for permanent and seasonal workforce, as well as the creation and maintenance of employee files.
  • Ensure all new hires are ready for work and that any and all orientation and training programs have been successfully completed.  Conduct orientations and trainings, or assist department managers in these trainings.
  • Implement ongoing training programs to comply with legal requirements and company goals.  This will involve actual training of employees and/or managers (train the trainers), record keeping and periodic management reports.
  • Oversee the worker safety programs, including the Injury Illness Prevention Program, safety-meetings, worker’s compensation issues, injured worker status, OSHA reporting and compliance, accident investigations, and any emergency care and response requirements that arise.
  • Routinely meet with employees, foreman and managers to ensure all human resource issues are being handled properly.
