Job Description: 

Daylight Foods services a wide variety of food service concepts from Fine and Casual Dining/Institutional/Retail/Pre-Cut/Healthcare. Our distribution center encompasses over 55,000 square feet with four temperature zones and refrigerated docks.

We are currently seeking an experienced Produce Buyer in Milpitas, California.

Compensation/Salary: 
Competitive Salary 55k-90k + benefits after 60 days
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Negotiate with vendors on product costs, all terms of sales, product quality, and labeling/case requirements for all items within the category.
  • Purchase products; source everyday items, seasonal items, in and out promotional items and special program items.
  • Accurately determine timing and quantities to order.
  • Manage current products, track sales trends and category performance; monitor and assess vendor performance to ensure they meet our service requirements for shipping and quality.
  • Investigate cost changes, pursue forward buy opportunities and extended payment terms; follow market conditions on commodity items.
  • Exceed or meet sales, margins and financial budgets; monitor and balance inventories.
  • Locate new sources of supply; conduct research, development and communication for global sourcing.
  • Interact professionally with buyers, warehousing, operations, Licensee’s and merchandising departments to facilitate proper product flow and handling.
  • Initiate communication with stores on new items or problem situations; react & anticipate problems.
  • Determine and prioritize workload and meet assigned deadlines.
Qualifications: 
  • Minimum three plus (3+) years of experience in product negotiation and procurement; Bachelors degree in business or logistics related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of supplier and logistic systems, as well as knowledge of the federal grade/product standards and regulations.
  • Understanding of store operations and merchandising methodologies and practices.
  • Proficient in mathematical computation and calculation usage and able to anticipate and solve problems.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to create/maintain vendor relationships, ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment with a sense of persistence and urgency with a strong focus on the customer.
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems and deal with ambiguous situations.
