Staff Accountant

Job Description: 

D’Arrigo Bros. Co., of California, a ninety year old, rapidly growing Salinas based agricultural company, is looking for staff accountant to join an enthusiastic team.  We are one of the largest vegetable grower, packer and shippers, and we offer opportunities with excellent benefits and compensation.  Since we are a technologically aggressive organization, a strong knowledge of Excel, Word and Windows is required.  Microsoft Dynamics software experience a plus.  This position is located in Yuma, Arizona with occasional travel to Salinas, California.

Under supervision from the Operation Controller and Vice President of Southern District, performs varied accounting functions.  Day to day activities require the use of initiative and judgment, particularly when prioritizing work. 

Knowledge of:

  • General accounting practices
  • Auditing practices
  • Operation of standard office equipment, including personal computers, photocopier, fax machines and appropriate software such as Windows, Microsoft Office applications   

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in monthly general ledger closings and financial reporting.
  • Review and analyze cost accumulation of ranch and blocks and indirect cost centers.
  • Develop and maintain rigorous documentation standards to ensure ongoing knowledge and transfer of knowledge of all business critical finance and accounting applications and processes.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting for operational decision making and planning.
  • Maintain Operations database and reporting.
  • Develop and manage a more efficient seed inventory system.
  • Implement accounts payable processing workflow.
  • Participate in or complete special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Accounting
  • 3-5 years accounting experience
  • Excellent customer service skills on the phone and in person
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to keep skill set current
  • Organized team player who works well with a variety of people with a minimum of supervision
  • Solid problem solving skills with a methodical approach
  • Regular and consistent attendance mandatory
  • Valid drivers license and clean record
  • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary
