McAneny Brothers is a family-owned, broad-line distributor to the grocery and convenience store industry throughout PA, MD, WV and OH. We are currently looking for a Produce Buyer in Western, PA.

As a Produce Buyer, you will be responsible for identifying and purchasing produce for our wholesale customers.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or Marketing/Sales.  Relevant experience can be substituted for education.
  • Minimum of 7+ years’ experience in the business.  Relevant continuing education may be substituted for experience. 
  • Must have knowledge of produce specific information such as growing seasons, inflation cycles and deflation cycles, inventory experience, and knowledge of pricing and value. 
  • Must have a working list of contacts within the produce industry. 
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and directions.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers to convey information effectively and professionally.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Purchase the specific produce which will be resold to wholesale customers. 
  • Analyze past buyer trends, sales records, price and quality of merchandise to determine value and yield.
  • Select, order, and authorize payment for merchandise according to contractual agreements. 
  • Meet and/or communicate with sales personnel for the introduction of new products. 
  • Use of software system to organize and locate inventory.
  • Management of the produce bought with daily review of lost sales reports, items below minimum, credits, inventory adjustments, and suggested vendors and creation of purchase orders to replenish inventory.
  • Negotiate prices, discount terms, and transportation arrangements for merchandise.
  • Confer with sales staff to obtain information about customer needs and preferences.
  • Examine, select, order and purchase at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other factors.
  • Analyze and monitor sales records, trends, weather/seasons and economic conditions to anticipate consumer buying patterns, and determine what the company will sell and how much inventory is needed. 
  • Mange pricing on all products to be competitive and within the profit expectations of the company.
  • Evaluate vendor performance through sales, profits and inventory turns. 
  • Follow up on pricing, shortages, or damage discrepancies on invoices and authorize payment of invoices or return of merchandise.
  • Interview and work closely with vendors to obtain and develop desired products, as well as develop and maintain vendor/grower relationships. 
  • Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports, as requested. 
  • Prepare vendor bill back statements for regular products, TPR’s, Food/Trade Show deals, seasonal shipments and follow through for payment.
  • Solicit and prepare information for Food/Trade Show booklets. 
  • Manage inventory by reviewing aged inventory and reviewing inventory SKU count through reports and physical inventory checks.
