Job Description: 

A major food processing plant in South Central, Georgia is seeking a Director of Plant Operations.

The Director of Plant Operations will have overall accountability for directing and managing plant operations to meet quality, food safety, and customer requirements in a safe, cost-effective, and timely manner. The plant employs close to 100 employees during the holiday season and maintains an experienced year-round staff to manage food processing production throughout the year.

As the Director of Plant Operations you will be responsible for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. You are also responsible for the interviewing and hiring of employees; planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field, and 10+ years related experience.
  • Management experience in food manufacturing (preferably processing).
  • HACCP certification strongly desired, and concrete knowledge of all governmental regulations concerning OSHA, FDA, LGMA, as well as good manufacturing practices (GMP) for food processing.
  • Knowledge of the State Labor Code.
  • Background in manufacturing methods, process/continuous improvement programs and procedures, and quality management systems.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required.
  • Experience with Accounting software, ADP Payroll system, and FAMOUS inventory management software highly desirable.
  • Ability to use analytical thinking to solve problems.
  • Must be able to set and attain goals, initiate action to resolve problems and improve products and processes.
  • Good organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with strategic planning and being a member of a high level executive team.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring and training while supervising and indirectly coordinating activities of employees.
  • Direct, manages and controls production process through product preparation area, washing, processing, and packaging, plus the plant sanitation process.
  • Oversees the packing schedule and communicates with the SMP sales department on the quantity of product available each day.
  • Coordinates plant activities through detailed planning with supervisors to ensure daily objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Coordinates with the field to ensure appropriate quantities of product are available to meet production requirements.
  • Participates in the development of (updates, coordinates and implements) policies and procedures for elements of the food safety and safety programs.
  • Ensures all food safety and safety procedures and policies are being followed.
  • Determines materials, equipment, and labor requirements; and ensures availability to meet production targets.
  • Participates with senior management and maintenance to develop projects which relate to the improvement of production lines.
  • Conducts on-the-job training for new positions and worker safety trainings when needed.
  • Oversees the QA/QC-Food Safety department to ensure the management and accuracy of QA/QC documents and protocols.
  • Implements and updates quality control standards.
  • Develops, implements and updates SOP’s.
  • Develops, tracks, communicates and reports the operational KPI’s. Prepares and reports data analysis to the owners and COO, so as to contribute to maintaining and developing cost standards.
  • Constantly works to identify and implement process improvements that benefit the overall cost of goods and increase the performance of the production line.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner following the Company’s Health and Safety policies and procedures.
