Job Description: 

A successful grower-packer of fresh produce in Santa Barbara County is seeking to hire a General Manager to oversee the entire operation, which includes farming, harvesting, land management and associated operations.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Directs and oversees the overall operations of the organization
  • Works with the team to facilitate the organization’s goals and objectives, leading, assisting, and coaching team members keeping succession plans in mind
  • Collaborates with existing management and personnel in the leadership of all farming, harvesting and production activities
  • Responsible for the managerial oversight of human resources, finance and administration
  • Ensures compliance with all labor laws, company policy and workers safety
  • Involved in the oversight of company financials including revenue targets, actual to budget, gross margin and profit.
  • Develops and manages operating budgets; assess the capital budget needs; manage costs; and deliver expected profitability
  • Works closely with Controller and accounting department
  • Partners with the operations/production team to identify bottlenecks, and increase labor efficiency, and profitability
  • Provides guidance and support to Food Safety Director to ensure that the proper procedures and controls are in place
  • Evaluates purchasing practices and negotiates contracts for materials and inputs in order to control costs
  • Reviews, negotiates and approves grower, shipper and land contracts
  • Participates in production planning and strategies
  • Manages and fosters strong relationships with key external suppliers
  • Recognizes deficiencies and develops strategies for process improvement and innovation as needed
  • Communicates all results, challenges and developments to ownership
