Job Description: 

This position is responsible for US Operations, including the Farming, Harvesting and Grower Services for the United States. The candidate will also be responsible for sourcing specific commodities to achieve volume plan. Directs and manages external and internal business relationships to achieve the company's volume and profit objectives.

Requirements: 
  • 10-15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in Berry related agriculture.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquires or complaints.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with customers, growers, and vendors.
  • Ability to make effective presentations to management, customers, growers and public groups.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Travel up to 50% of time
  • Must be Bi-lingual

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk in uneven ground.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb on and off farming equipment.
  • Ability to travel 50%.

Work Hour Requirement:

  • Ability to work overtime and weekends required.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Recommends and implements or coordinates the planting for the varietals for United States farming operations.
  • Coordinates harvest operations in all areas, and responsible for leading team to develop and distribute harvest estimates on a monthly, weekly and daily basis to all stakeholders.
  • Directs harvest and logistics equipment in support of US operations.
  • Formulates and executes sourcing strategy. Sources product for Division requirements, including Company operations and outside growers for strawberries and raspberries.
  • Responsible for product quality, yields, and growing, harvest for both berries and vegetables and as well as growers.
  • Negotiates and administers sourcing contracts with growers.
  • Negotiates and administers ground leases.
  • Oversees growing and harvesting to ensure cost efficiency and approves all grower bills prior to processing for payment.
  • Directs and manages ground portfolio, including strategy recommendations, landlord relations, allocation of ranches to growers, and subleases.
  • Ensures adherence to Food Safety and Quality standards in growing, harvesting, and cooling operations, including outside growers and coolers.
  • Assists the General Manager and leads the farm managers in the development of strategic plan and operating and capital budgets.
  • Represents the Company to all of the Grower community and to the industry. Develops grower and industry relationships to the benefit of the Company.
  • Direct, manage and hire all US farm managers and harvest managers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education: 
  • BS/BA from four-year College or University, preferably in an Ag Science or Ag Business related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
