Job Description: 

A well-regarded vegetable grower-packer-shipper is looking for a Farm Production Manager to oversee all aspects of operations. This includes managing custom growers in Florida, Mexico, California and Arizona.

The Farm Production Manager is responsible for directing our contract transplant and harvesting providers. They are also responsible for coordinating and ensuring food safety audits and compliance throughout the company's supply chain. 

This position requires a strong results-orientated leader with exceptional inter-personal skills, and a proven commitment to planning, efficiency and detail.

Requirements: 
  • B.S. in Ag Business.
  • 10+ years of experience in production agriculture (vegetable experience required).
  • Lives in/around Salinas, CA.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task effectively and manage contractors.
  • Ability to work effectively in Famous system.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel to winter growing regions (not for extended stay periods).
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Developing weekly/monthly planting schedules to meet sales plan.  
  • Keeping planting and harvest estimates updated and working with sales to manage any issues.
  • Direct custom grower’s farming activities to ensure targeted yields, quality and volumes are met.
  • Help determine ideal growing regions and that blocks are selected for planting.
  • Ensure proper seed varieties are selected for growing region and planting schedule.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper farm cultural practices, including direct seed or transplant, planting density and configuration, weeding, thinning, fertilizer and irrigation.
  • Monitor and manage costs to keep with budgeted cost/acre.
  • Schedule and direct custom harvesting company to ensure fields are harvested in a timely manner for optimum yield, cost and quality.
  • Work with coolers to ensure proper cooling and storage of crop.
  • Direct activities with nursery to ensure transplants are prepared in a timely manner and planted in a cost effective manner.
  • Work with growers and food safety auditors to ensure all food safety requirements of company and their customers are met.
