Job Description: 

Due to our rapid expansion in the Americas, we are looking to add a Financial Controller to our team. In this highly visible role, the ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting management through financial, governance, and administrative support.  Reporting to the Regional Finance Manager, based in the Asia Pacific, this person is a part of the management team for the Americas region, which includes business and commercial transactions in Canada, USA, Central America, and Latin America.

The Financial Controller will be accountable for monitoring the financial performance for the Americas and working with the Regional Finance Manager and Management to optimize results. Responsibilities will include overseeing internal and external financial reporting and accounting, including taxation and mitigating risk through best practice governance, effective business systems, and internal controls.

Requirements: 
  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance with CPA, CA and/or MBA strongly preferred.
  • At least five years’ corporate finance experience in a FMCG company and/or distribution group preferred, will also consider someone in public accounting/consulting firms.
  • Good tax knowledge relating to the operation of a multinational corporations in the US.
  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of SAP financial modules (or at least similar tier 1 ERP system).
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong focus on execution of activities in a timely manner to meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills to aid good judgement and decision-making.
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically as needed (estimated up to 25%).

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Monitor financial performance and work with the Management to optimize results

  • Contribute to market-side strategy setting, business planning, and execution as required.
  • Proactively provide advice, analysis, and financial information to Management.
  • Work with supply teams and provide support and analytical capability as required. 
  • Assist the Regional Finance Manager in collecting and reporting on America’s KPI’s.
  • Fill the role of subject expert on the matter of OGR calculations.
  • Assist the management team for overhead and capital expenditure budget preparation.
  • Prepare financial forecasts for review by the Management team.
  • Provide Treasury with cash flow forecasts.
  • Ensure phased budget sales, costs and forecasts are uploaded and maintained in SAP.
  • Prepare reports for and attend meetings, 5-year planning sessions, etc.
  • Key point of contact for all financial queries for the Americas Region.
  • Delegated authority to act on behalf of the Regional Finance Manager as required.
  • Monitor marketing, overhead, and direct costs versus budget and forecast.

Oversee internal and external financial reporting and accounting, including taxation

  • Oversee the transmission of data to the Shared Service Center.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports in line with corporate requirements.
  • Prepare the monthly accounts. Ensure tax accounts are prepared and tax returns filed.
  • Maintain adequate documentation on inter-company invoicing.
  • Constantly seek to improve the relevance and efficiency of financial reports.
  • Be closely aware of major taxation issues and assumptions affecting taxation management.
  • Assist the Group Taxation Manager with any US and Brazilian taxation issues and projects.
  • Ensure all taxes are paid by due date.
  • Ensure terms of trade are maintained with our customers.

Mitigate risk through best practice governance, business systems and internal controls

  • Develop overall governance and accounting/reporting frameworks.
  • Ensure local laws, key controls, policies and requirements are complied with.
  • Monitor credit control activities for the Americas customers. 
  • Coordinate the annual setting of the Terms of Trade for the Americas.
  • Assist with the internal and external audit process. 
  • Review financial statements to ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS and regulatory rulings. 
  • Liaise with local External Audit practice to ensure smooth and accurate audit is completed.
  • Ensure that commercial arrangements in place are appropriately governed and managed.
  • Ensure appropriate contracts are in place.
  • Work with Customs on import arrangements and ensure customs duty is properly managed.
  • Contribute to the on-going development of financial policies.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of core accounting systems and reporting modules. 
  • Ensure all systems are fully documented and that satisfactory internal controls are in place.

As a senior finance professional in the Americas region:

  • Assist with special projects as required e.g. Company structuring, Finance Efficiencies Project, Transfer pricing studies, taxation modelling etc.
  • Manage the effective contributions of external service providers and staff as appropriate.
  • Provide financial training and advice to other Finance/Admin staff as required.
  • Provide payroll support at a local level as required.
  • Contribute to building a closer and stronger relationship and improved mutual understanding between Head Office and the Americas market.

Key Result Areas:

  • Americas financial and management reporting process completed accurately and on time.
  • Forecast and budgets completed in required format, to required accuracy level and on time.
  • Accurate and relevant financial analysis completed and presented to management.
  • Internal Control environment in place in the Americas and no significant breaches.
  • Good systems implemented for reporting, management and to support growth.
  • Key point of contact for all financial reporting for Head Office queries. 
  • Ensures all types of tax payments are made on time.
  • Projects completed on time and to required standard.
