Job Description: 

The accurate and timely purchase of foodservice, organic and specialty produce items at the lowest cost possible, while maintaining the highest of quality standards.

Requirements: 
  • Five years comparable experience.  
  • Good to excellent computer skills and ability to gain knowledge of required software to ensure work flow.
  • Excellent communication and real time follow-up skills.
  • Track record of success.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain inter-department relationships that are critical for success.
  • Bachelor's Degree is a plus.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Obtain the highest quality of all foodservice, organic and specialty produce items at the lowest possible purchase cost.
  • Knowledge of current market conditions to optimize market swings and fluctuations.
  • Seek and take advantage of vendor promotions whenever possible.
  • Select group of commodities which may include but not limited to: produce, dairy, dry, and other refrigerated items as customer demand dictates.
  • Negotiate the lowest possible cost, and award daily business and /or contracts that ensure the correct amount of product or service is received at the build, and strengthen relationships within the vendor and the customer.
  • Manage market cost to maximize gross margin; update through open dialog to Sales Team.
  • Manage all freight aspects to ensure product arrives timely to fill orders.
  • Maintain communication lines with sales team to promote and push the sale of products to minimize spoilage.
  • Review and study sales reports and maintain inventory levels to maximize sales, and minimize spoilage.
  • Review and monitor product rotation and “use by” dates and when applicable, may request to move a specific “Lot” ahead in the normal FIFO rotation process.
  • Evaluate suppliers based upon quality, price, service support, reliability, availability, and product selection.
  • Identify primary, secondary and supplemental vendors for sourcing and procurement of items.
