The Commodity Manager is responsible for achievement of sales targets, top line sales growth, and profitability achieved through accurate forecast planning and pricing, as well as deep knowledge of the competitive environment, for assigned fresh produce commodities. The Commodity Manager reports directly to the VP of Commodity Management, and will perform other tasks as needed.

Requirements: 
  • Previous sales and/or buying experience contacting regional and national growers at all organizational levels.
  • Previous experience and deep knowledge of produce, seasons, and commodities.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with customers.
  • Demonstrated success increasing top line sales to meet assigned objectives, skills and knowledge
  • Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels and in all disciplines, both internally and externally, and to develop strong internal  networks is  essential.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and time management skills.
  • Adaptable and able to work well across multiple departments and within cross-functional teams .
  • Adept at working independently, setting priorities and maintaining accountability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven planning and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Computer literacy required, including proficiency in standard business applications included in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Create value proposition for our packaging and usage in assigned commodity.
  • Identify opportunities in the market and develop and manage pricing strategies to ensure maximum profitability while maintain top line sales.
  • Create commodity forecast volumes and timing by gathering data from Grower Account Managers associated with the assigned commodity and Retail Account Managers.
  • Forecast volume by size and promote advance order placement to meet customer needs. Monitor grower inventory levels.
  • Serve as the liaison for managing activity between Retail Sales, Grower Sales, and our customers.
  • Create an action plan with our sales teams for commodity to our packaging. Provide commodity and pack out trainings to our sales teams.
  • Execute sales activity through regular and targeted contact with customers to support the Grower Account Managers and Retail Account Managers, including on-site visits primarily to grower/packer locations.
  • Evaluate performance by individual customer and region and analyze customer performance trends and impact on commodity.
  • Provide advice and direction for all commodity inquiries, best practices, and retail specifications. 
  • Research the marketplace to understand the key industry players, competition’s performance and inroads, and utilize knowledge to develop pricing and sales strategies.
  • Meet or exceed assigned customer and regional commodity forecasts.
  • Meet or exceed pricing objectives for commodity.
  • Responsible for managing, developing and growing current and prospective customers for the commodity.
  • Create pricing parameters.
  • Position is field based and requires a minimum of 50% travel.
  • Maintain knowledge of the competitive environment in the packaging industry.
  • Coordinate action plan involving internal sales teams and customers.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor Degree preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge and expertise of commodity and pack out specifications required.
  • Must be geographically located to assigned customers and able to travel at least 50% of the work week.
