This is a unique opportunity for an experienced produce industry accounting professional to join an emerging company as a Controller. This person will work closely with the President to manage and grow the business.

Our client is a young and fast growing year-round shipper of multiple commodities shipping from California, Arizona and Mexico. Your knowledge and experience in produce accounting and financial practices will shape the company’s future and take us to the next level.

Requirements: 
  • 7+ years of accounting experience that includes experience in the produce industry.
  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of grower accounting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced software skills including MS Excel and Word and accounting programs.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Responsible for all GL functions including preparation of journal entries, accruals, cash application, variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual close, guaranteeing efficient and accurate, financial results.
  • Create and produce financial statements and reports for banks and management.
  • Oversee grower accounting – review contracts, analyze production reports to determine payments to growers and set up payments per contract terms.
  • Perform cost, purchase and inventory accounting functions.
  • Work with external tax accountant for sales tax and income tax filings.
  • Plan and prepare audit schedules and quarterly audit reporting.
  • Work with owner on budgeting, forecasting and cash flow activities.
  • Continuously develop, improve and implement procedures that will improve efficiencies within the department and ensure accurate accounting and reliable internal controls.
  • Provide accounting guidance to the owners or other team members on financial related questions and concerns.
  • Direct, develop and mentor accounting staff.
