Assistant Controller

Job Description: 

A mid-sized high volume distribution company located in downtown Los Angeles area has an opening for a hands-on Assistant Controller to manage the daily financial affairs of the organization and assist in analyses of operations, including interim financial statements.

Compensation/Salary: 
$70k - $80k DOE
Requirements: 
  • 5 plus years of progressively responsible accounting roles.
  • 3 years of leadership experience with direct supervision of staff.
  • 3 years with integrated computerized accounting systems.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, A/R, A/P, taxes, credit and collections, and cash flow.
  • The general ledger, including month-end closing activities, assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and related schedules.
  • Implement and maintain accounting practices to ensure a high level of efficiency while maintaining appropriate internal controls and compliance with GAAP.
  • Assure that account reconciliations are performed in a timely manner.
  • Review various contracts, orders, vouchers, etc. to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition & expense recording.
  • Coordinate with Controller on preparation of financial statements and tax returns.
  • Supervise the Accounting Department in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. This includes training, planning, assigning work, and evaluating performance.
  •  Assure compliance with local and state tax authorities, and file tax reports required.
Education: 
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.
Skills: 
  • Experience in implementing/maintaining internal controls.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, and cost control principles including GAAP.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Experience with completing state and federal regulatory filings.
  • Strong computer skills, with ability to troubleshoot problems.
  • Strong supervisory experience; professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to motivate a team to produce quality materials within tight deadlines and simultaneously manage multiple projects.
