Our client, a dynamic, fast-growing full-service wholesale distributor of fresh produce with a large balanced customer base in retail and food service, is looking for an entrepreneurial and progressive minded Buyer to join their team in Denver, Colorado.  

The Buyer will be responsible for the accurate and timely procurement of retail, foodservice, organic and specialty produce items at the lowest cost possible, while maintaining the highest of quality standards.

Requirements: 
  • 4-10 years of procurement experience, preferably in a produce distribution, retail or wholesale environment.
  • Strong oral/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Impeccable work ethic and a team player.
  • Four year college degree in purchasing, supply chain, or business degree strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Produce Pro Software or the AS400 is preferred.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Procure the highest quality of all retail, foodservice, organic and specialty product at the best possible cost.
  • Research and determine ways to buy product direct from Grower/Shippers.
  • Knowledge of current market conditions to optimize market swings and fluctuations.
  • Seek and take advantage of vendor promotions whenever possible.
  • Select group of commodities which may include; but not limited to produce, dairy, frozen, dry, and other refrigerated items as customer demand dictates.  Produce is 95% of their business.
  • Build and strengthen relationships within the vendor and the customer communities.
  • Gather costing information to effectively quote retailers’ weekly ads in a timely manner.
  • Maintain communication lines with sales team to promote and push the sale of products to minimize spoilage.
  • Identify the best freight carriers for the company at the lowest possible rates.
  • Review and monitor product rotation and “use by” dates; and when applicable may request to move a specific “Lot” ahead in the normal FIFO rotation process.
  • Identify primary, secondary and supplemental vendors for the sourcing and procurement of items.
  • Monitor and manage supplier agreements, contract parameters, and base costs for customers requiring weekly pricing.
  • Help manage national accounts and their buying programs.
