Job Description:
Under the direction of the G.M., the Director or Food Safety will ensure the integrity, quality and food safety of all fruit grown and packed by the company.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Monitor and manage all process requirements to ensure quality and food safety.
- Develop and maintain HACCP plans.
- Organic testing and adherence to organic protocol.
- Assist with R & D projects.
- Monitor field operations and packing operations adherence to GAP and GMP standards.
- Operate a KPI system for monitoring supplier performance with respect to safety, quality and legality.
- Ensure plant operations audit corrective action plans are implemented.
- Conduct internal food safety audits that assess the production and sanitation practices as well as equipment sanitation and food safety concerns during operations to determine compliance of internal SOPs and SSOPs. Conduct monthly meetings to discuss and rectify concerns.
- Train and develop the operations team responsible for quality control checks.
- Respond to customer complaints with corrective action reports.
- Consult with and train all departments to improve post harvesting and packing procedures for improved food safety.
- Develop SOPs and SSOPs as needed.
- Develop and maintain EMP (Environmental Monitoring Program).
- Point person for all 3rd Party GAP audits, for local, state, and Federal inspections and all technical customer groups.
Qualifications:
- BS Degree in Food Science, Biology, Agriculture or related field, preferred.
- Minimum 3 yrs field experience in a growing operation OR Produce packing house in a Quality or Food Safety role.
- Auditing experience at grower level and packing house level.
- Bilingual Spanish, preferred.
- HACCP certification preferred.
- Sanitation experience preferred.
- Knowledge of organic growing and packing processes would be a plus.
