Buyer

Coast Tropical is a division of Coast Citrus Distributors. Coast Citrus Distributors was formed in 1950 and is a major wholesale distributor of fruits and vegetables in the United States and Mexico.

General Responsibilities:
The Produce Buyer reports to the Buying Director and or General Manager and is responsible for the product procurement of predetermined products from Mexico (80% of volume from products grown in Mexico) and from vendors at the best available prices consistent with quality standards in the company. 

Qualifications & Skills Required:

• Bi-lingual (Spanish & English) Preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Business, Business, Supply Chain Management, Procurement or 5+ years equivalent experience  
• 3 + Years of buying experience
• Knowledge of agricultural business, produce sales, and/or retail buying a plus
• Able to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and able to accomplish team objectives
• Attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational skills
• Proven vendor relationship and negotiation skills; must possess tact, diplomacy and firmness in vendor negotiations
• Adaptability/flexibility, with the ability to react quickly to changing requirements from internal and external conditions while maintaining good communication with all parties involved
• Strong interpersonal skills to demonstrate teamwork, leadership and creative flexibility while dealing with all levels of the organization
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient skills in using computer-based systems, programs and reports
• Capacity to manage one’s own time
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
• Travel up to 50% to include possible international travel
