We are looking for a highly motivated Buyer to join our team in Irwindale, CA.
As the Buyer, you will be responsible for supporting the purchasing manager in coordinating procurement and inventory activities with other buyers to meet all departmental and company goals. You will also partner with all distribution center departments to help resolve customer questions and complaints.

Requirements:
- Should possess Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of FOB procurement experience in the wholesale produce industry, preferred.
- Product quality knowledge.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Must be able to negotiate competitive quality and pricing at all times.
- Proven vendor relationship and negotiating skills; must possess tact, diplomacy and firmness in vendor negotiations.
- Knowledge of retail, wholesale, produce markets and growing conditions.
- Knowledge of Transportation/Logistics in order to follow through in the delivery of commodities.
- Knowledge of the USDA inspection process and billing.
- Knowledge of Computer Information Systems preferred: Bosanova/Retalix and Sequel (training provided), and AS 400.
- Ability to work independently and drive results.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and short deadlines.
- Ability to work flexible hours and days.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Secure cost-effective, quality products.
- Maintain and create relationships with vendors.
- Maintain proper inventory levels of assigned commodities.
- Monitor product forecast, market trends and suppliers to determine future prices and availability.
- Minimize shrinkage and spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Communicate favorable purchasing opportunities to management.
- Other tasks as assigned.
