ABOUT THE POSITION:

Capay Organic is looking for an energetic and progressive purchasing manager with a background in organic produce to manage the purchasing team through leadership and development. The position is responsible for the production planning activities of the organization, by performing essential duties and responsibilities personally or through subordinate supervisors. The position is further responsible for providing day to day purchasing and operational support to warehouse and operations teams.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Implements strategic procurement plans to accommodate procurement team goals.
  • Oversees company order line - spot purchasing and program development.
  • Oversees product coordination between sales department, production department, and purchasing related units.
  • Executes purchasing responsibilities on key seasonal commodities weekly, while guiding and mentoring purchasing team on auxiliary commodities.
  • Reviews market analysis to determine customer needs, price schedules, and seasonal sourcing opportunities.
  • Monitors and is responsible for Farm Fresh To You inventories in all facilities.
  • Directs staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control purchasing program.
  • Develops company wide produce demands to coincide with production department needs.
  • Represents all company brands at trade association meetings to promote company image and develop sales and purchasing leads.
  • Oversees a targeted vendor engagement program. Regular vendor visits to build long term relationships.
  • Analyze quality assurance database identifying best practices in vendor quality control and practices.
  • Recommends budget, expenditures, and appropriations for the purchasing department's annual budget.
Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Direct experience purchasing/procuring produce (preferably organic produce).
  • Knowledge of organic produce varieties, organic growing practices, quality standards and seasonality.
  • Strong leadership and team-management skills; able to inspire through influence, motivate and provide sound direction.
  • Ability to maintain, grow, and strengthen relationships with organic vendors/farmers and internal/external customers.
  • Leadership experience and proven success in creating a climate in which people want to do their best; ability to motivate many kinds of direct reports and team, or project members.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite software applications.
  • Experience utilizing databases, including Famous software.
  • Current California Driver's License and proof of insurance and/or insurability required.
  • Must be able to travel 20% of the time.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
