Area Farm Manager

Job Description: 

As an Area Farm Manager the qualified applicant will plan, direct and manage through supervisory personnel, activities of workers engaged in citrus crop (oranges) production on approximately 3500 acres located in Tulare and Kern counties.  This position will work under the direction of and will report to the company’s Vice President of Farming.

  • Ability/willingness to work nights and weekends when required
  • Ability to travel and work in remote locations as necessary

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions
  • Ability to work in a field environment with temperatures ranging from 20 – 110+ degrees Fahrenheit
  • May require walking for long periods of time in uneven terrain as part regular duties
  • Often standing, walking, sitting, reaching, turning, bending for long periods of time
  • Uses hands to finger, handle, feel or grasp
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without undue physical exertion and ability to stoop, reach, walk and other physical activities associated with field environments
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Use best agricultural practices to execute and manage farming activities including, but not limited to:
    • Irrigation system management
    • Land preparation and planting
    • Fertilization and pesticide applications
    • Pruning
    • Herbicide and weed management
  • Record information such as crop fertility, production figures, and farm management practices
  • Achieve maximum yield of planted crop while allowing for weather and other natural factors
  • Monitor adherence to company’s food safety guidelines
  • Prepare and evaluate financial and operational reports
  • Prepare and evaluate financial statements and make budget proposals such as:
    • General budget
    • Water budget
  • Other duties as assigned
Education: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural related field or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum 2+ years’ farm management experience
