We are searching for an experienced human resources professional with a knowledge of payroll and safety process to join our team in Santa Maria, CA.

As the Human Resources/Payroll/Safety Coordinator you are responsible for ensuring that all employee paper work and documentation is completed from time cards and badges to safety certifications and meetings. You will work as a link between management and employees ensuring that all employees are following company policies and law and that they are treated and treating each other in a respectful manner.

Requirements: 
  • Five years plus proven experience in Human Resources, Payroll and Safety Programs.
  • Experience in agriculture and produce industry a plus.
  • Conscientious, detail-oriented, self- motivated.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks timely and accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with strong ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the company including: Owners, Executives, Management, and front line workers.
  • Experience working with individuals across different geographies and cultures.
  • Bilingual in Spanish required.
  • Proficiency with the computer (Email, Excel, Word, Payroll Systems).
  • Ability to plan ahead, troubleshoot and anticipate problems and solve them.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple job tasks.
  • Ability to learn new technologies for production and record keeping.
  • Be highly organized, punctual and exhibit strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn and share knowledge with others.
  • Capable and willing to work accurately, efficiently and productively for performance results.
  • Strong ability to work with the Human Resource, Safety, and Payroll Team to achieve the goals at hand in a professional and positive manner.
  • Travel required to Yuma, Arizona for a 5-month consecutive period, Santa Maria (7 months), Oxnard. Other travel as designated.
Responsibilities & Duties: 

Payroll:

  • Responsible for reviewing and ensuring accuracy of Crew ID numbers against what ALCO Crews have harvested. Ensure any discrepancies are corrected.
  • Responsible for entering new hire information into Pet Tiger and ADP Payroll Systems.
  • Responsible for issuing all employee badges.
  • Responsible for reviewing all payroll entries prior to payroll processing.
  • Work closely with Payroll Supervisor and Alco Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate and timely payroll processes.
  • Responsible for collecting and submitting weekly check signature register.

Human Resources:

  • Serve as a link between management and employees by fielding questions, interpreting and helping to resolve work-related issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policy, fair employment practices and government regulations.
  • Manage employee documentation and adhere to Corporate HR Policies.
  • Advise and train Foreman and Supervisors on organizational policy matters such as equal employment opportunity, Sexual Harassment and other related corporate and legislative policies.
  • Administer New Hire Orientations, Disciplinary/Counseling Actions, and Terminations.
  • Respond quickly and urgently to staff vacancies and recruit, interview and select appropriate applicants.
  • Plan, Organize, Direct, Control and Coordinate the personnel, training, and labor relations activities.
  • Provide information and training to employees about company policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities and employee benefits.
  • Conduct investigations on employee relations issues: Sexual Harassment, Grievances, Safety, Etc.
  • Maintain documentation organization for: New Hires, Transfers, Promotions, Performance, and Time and Attendance. Ensure documentation reaches corporate personnel files.
  • Create, improve, and monitor new hire packets to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Ensure all legal postings are accessible and posted according to legislative compliance.

Safety:

  • Provide general guidance, direction, advice and regulatory requirements in all areas of occupational safety and health.
  • Provide leadership and direction to operating managers regarding effective accident investigation and management and return to work programs.
  • Conduct weekly safety inspections of all crews, fields and machinery to ensure proactive measures against safety risk. (Lock out/Tag Out, Field/Machinery Safety Checklists, Etc.).
  • Maintain OSHA documentation MSDS Binders and Chemical Lists.
  • Ensure weekly safety meetings are conducted with documentation and organization.
  • Coach and educate all levels of management and employees on environmental safety and health regulations.
  • Establish Physician List for Employee Accidents and Illness.
  • Responsible for setting up doctor appointments and escorting employee to all doctor’s visits.
  • Identify, report and provide solutions for employee safety programs, regulatory compliance and employee health issues.
  • Key contact for Safety and Labor Inspections. Consult with HR/Safety Director on course of action.
  • Receive and review all field safety audits, and risk assessments.  Complete reports as directed.
  • Review all post-accident investigations and near misses for process and procedural improvements and follow-up with management.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of Worker’s Compensation Claims and Reports with proper processing protocols. 
  • Ensure all legal postings are accessible and posted according to legislative compliance (Liability
  • Policies, OSHA 300 Log, Etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
