Job Title: Harvest Supervisor
Department: Harvesting
Headquarters: Santa Maria, CA and other growing locations
Travel Required to:
  • Yuma and surrounding area, AZ
  • Blythe, CA
  • Imperial Valley, CA
  • Oxnard, CA
  • Central Coast, CA.
Classification: Exempt
Reports To: VP, Harvesting
 

Job Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Directs and coordinates activities such as: Harvest Estimates, Timing, Quality, Supplies, Budgets
  • Determine when, where and how much product will be harvested on any given day; continuously working with labor crews to ensure that the quality of the pack is up to the company's standards
  • Records information, such as Quality, Supply, Timing, Yield, Lost Acres
  • Analyzes plant growth and reports crop status and/or crop recommendations
  • Coordinates with Ranch Manager’s on harvest plans and approaches
  • Inspects equipment to ensure proper functioning
  • Inspects fields to determine maturity dates of crops to estimate harvest timing and quantity
  • Enforces safety regulations and ensures policies are followed
  • Evaluates financial statements and makes budget proposals
  • Work with PCA’s to determine when to spray and what the target is
  • Work with the growers to achieve company goals
  • Work with seed companies to ensure we are using the best possible varieties available to the company
  • Work with marketing to trial new materials when presented
  • Work with vendors to ensure constant inventory in the applicable growing regions
  • Work with management on planting schedules and or issues
  • Manage outside deals, contracts and reconcile with accounting staff
  • Manage transition from growing region to growing region; able to relocate and travel
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Desired previous experience in Vegetable Production, 5 years +
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities and projects to achieve expected business results
  • Ability to lead, develop, and manage people
  • Valid CA Driver’s License with clean driving record
  • Unrestricted work ability in the U.S.
  • Ability to comprehend, read, write, and communicate proficiently in English and interact with all levels of personnel in the organization
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Calm and positive attitude—even while working under stressful conditions

Education: 

  • Desired Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Business or related field
  • Combination of education, training, and applied knowledge in Agri-Business and Vegetable Production

Physical Requirements:
The essential physical requirements for this position are:

  • Employee must have the ability to walk, talk, hear, see, speak, concentrate, reach in all directions, stoop, bend, lift up to 60 lbs
  • Use a computer, telephone and other equipment needed for the position
