We are currently looking for a Local buyer to join our team in Bronx, NY.

As the Local Buyer you will help support Baldor’s local initiative by sourcing and purchasing the highest quality products from as close to home as possible. You will also closely interface with the Marketing team to help implement marketing strategies for local items.

This is a new and exciting role for an aggressive decision maker, willing to take risks and driven by data.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline and/or demonstrated capability to perform the job responsibilities through previous experience and/or education.
  • Fully proficient in Excel, creating pivot tables, macros, formulas, linking spreadsheets etc.
  • Willingness to collaborate, listen and learn from our team of buyers.
  • Preexisting relationships with local farmers.
  • Strong commodities knowledge (including organic), vegetable, fruit, herbs, and specialty produce lines.
  • Analytical and quick decision making skills.
  • Market knowledge, ability to recognize trends.
  • Strong math and negotiation skills.
Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Working with existing buyers to manage a line of local commodities that does not interfere or compete with regular buys.
  • Forecasting purchasing needs based on historical data, seasonality and item peak time.
  • Sourcing and purchasing local and specialty items.
  • Managing the order fulfillment and replenishment process.
  • Coordinating inbound logistics.
  • Establishing relationships with local farmers.
  • Creating purchase orders and negotiating prices with farmers.
  • Maintaining appropriate product quality and safety under USDA standards.
  • Communicating with vendors to resolve any arising problems concerning product costs, quantity/quality and/or delivery times.
  • Communicating and submitting necessary reports on inbound items to Marketing.
  • Help support and implement marketing strategies based on quality and seasonality.
  • Serving as the main point of contact for local and specialty items.
  • Off season planning: establish new relationships and help onboard new suppliers.
