We are currently looking for a Produce Quality Assurance Manager to join our team in Batavia, IL.

As the Produce Quality Assurance Manager you are responsible for supporting the QA Director in the development, implementation, and management of quality assurance systems and processes to assist the Produce Buying Department in meeting departmental goals and company standards for quality products.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture or a related field and a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in the area of produce at either a retailer, distributor or grower.
  • Strong technical knowledge of USDA Grade Standards.
  • Familiarity with GFSI audit schemes and standards.
  • Technical knowledge in product evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of various growing regions for produce and the seasonality of each.
  • Regulatory knowledge of produce category (i.e. allowable pesticide residue levels, FSMA implications, etc.).
  • Excellent communicator with ability to train others on produce evaluation techniques.
  • Prior management experience.
  • Previous retail and agricultural experience.
  • Professionalism & effective communication (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Works with Buying Directors to develop testing requirements across relevant product groups, ensure compliance with all legal requirements, and keep product specifications up to date.
  • Informs the Quality Assurance Director of technical, legislative and quality matters in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Investigates product complaints and makes product withdrawal recommendations to the appropriate parties.
  • Provides information necessary for the appropriate Buying Director to make decisions on releasing or rejecting shipments based on product and product evaluations.
  • Commissions third-party test laboratories to conduct product tests in a cost-effective manner as appropriate while ensuring legal compliance.
  • Establishes a system to analyze third-party audits/plant inspections.
  • Develops, motivates, and manages direct report(s).
  • Defines, implements, and/or executes policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of department.
