Greenhouse Growing Manager - Tomato

Job Description: 

AGRICI has an international position for a Greenhouse Growing Manager (Tomato) in Ivory Coast, Africa. 

As a Greenhouse Growing Manger, you will manage of our tomato crop growing operations for the greenhouse facility in Ivory Coast, Africa. You are also responsible for the proper care of the greenhouse, including the principles and practices of plant cultivation, propagation, and protection.

AGRICI is a modern produce company with state of the art equipment that grows and delivers vegetables of the highest quality, in season and off season. Founded in 2014, the company has 8 acres of greenhouses with a nursery. The total size of the site is 400 acres and we are currently employing 35 employees. Our specialization is tomatoes and bell peppers, and our R&D department is developing more products for commercialization.

Requirements: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Ag business or Ag science, or related field (agricultural emphasis) preferred.
  • Thesis and demonstrated coursework in tomato growing, highly advantageous.
  • Must be able to identify the plants and their problems (diseases, pests, and others).
  • Must be able to plan, organize, direct, control, and/or coordinate activities of workers engaged in propagating, cultivating, harvesting and packing various tomato varieties.
  • Strong verbal and analytical skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Must be able to budget and forecast crop expenses and yields.
  • Must be computer literate in Excel and Word, and be capable of running greenhouse computerized software.
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Must be willing to work and live for long periods overseas.
  • Must pass drug and alcohol screening, criminal background check, physical and FCE.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Identify the plants and their problems (diseases, pests, and others).
  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and/or coordinate activities of workers engaged in propagating, cultivating, harvesting and packing various tomato varieties.
  • Train new employees in cultivating techniques: including pruning, de-leafing, thinning, irrigation, and pest control. 
  • Manage all greenhouse personnel under your direction -  supervising their activities and training them in the appropriate techniques for the plants being grown.
  • Track labor efficiency and make appropriate changes in the labor crew to meet company goals.
  • Ensure that the labor quality meets company standards and actively manage out poor performers.
  • Coordinate the biological control department to monitor pest and disease levels.
  • Ensure all safety policies (worker safety, food safety, etc) are followed and enforced, and ensure that strict crop hygiene practices are followed and enforced.
  • Establish and maintain a program to record crop growth data (weekly crop report, climate report, fruit maturation report, production, etc.).
  • Must be able to budget and forecast crop expenses and yields.
  • Responsible for inspecting facilities for signs of disrepair, and delegating repair duties to staff.
