Job Description:
We are currently seeking an experienced Produce Buyer in South San Francisco, California.The primary purpose of this position is to secure the right product, at optimal price, from approved vendors, to achieve the sales and financial goals of assigned categories and enable the Company to achieve profitability.
Position Reports to:
General Manager
Requirements:
- Participate in the annual Management review of the Food Safety and quality system.
- Participate in the Business Continuity Plan and Recall/Withdraw team.
- Ensure appropriate allocation of resources for food safety and quality as mandated by the President.
- Responsible for maintenance of Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Continually identify and determine optimum sources of supply
- Manage service levels and inventory of assigned categories
- Make purchase decisions and manage process for order fulfillment
- Be responsible for procuring designated quality and quantity
- Minimize cost of goods
- Minimize shrinkage/spoilage of fresh fruits and vegetables
- Manage USDA inspection process when necessary
- Negotiate revised billing resulting from USDA inspection reports when applicable
- Communicate favorable purchasing opportunities to management
- Support established logistical procedures to facilitate product arrival
- Communicate effectively to all department supervisors.
- Maintain awareness of market trends, technology and food safety;
- Ensure that product recalls and traceability standards are met
- Participate in plant/QA tours.
- Customer training on product availability and trends
Qualifications:
- Candidate should possess Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 3 to 5+ years produce buying experience
- Strong negotiating skills,
- Multiple task management,
- Be able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and able to accomplish team objectives.
- Candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with computer competency, including Excel & Word.

- Indoor office environment primarily.
- Must be able to work in refrigerated warehouse setting, occasionally.
