Job Description: 

SUPERVALU started in the supply chain and wholesale distribution business and in subsequent years we’ve grown to include traditional and hard discount grocery retail formats. We are currently looking for an Operations Sales Specialist-Produce who will cover the territory from Bowie, MD to Virginia Beach, VA.

The Operations Sales Specialist-Produce will be responsible for developing store teams that deliver outstanding customer satisfaction through store associates that are friendly, responsive to the customer needs, knowledgeable and are passionate about the food and drug business. The ideal candidate will teach and train store leadership teams to effectively implement merchandising, sales and expense control plans using defined scorecard metrics. This person will also utilize enterprise best practices to improve scorecard metrics.

Responsibilities & Duties: 

Overall – Supports store leadership and cross-functional operations in: (1) Implementation of merchandising programs, (2) 5 S workplace organization, presentation and cleanliness, (3) Defined benchmark measurements,(4) Training and monitoring loss stores / loss departments, (5) Minimization of shrink, (6) Safety and sanitation procedures, and (7) Associate development.

  • Collaborates with District Manager as the department expert to identify opportunity areas within a store and develop strategies to improve.
  • Participates in departmental and district sales meetings.
  • Instills a high degree of customer awareness and satisfaction while enhancing the customer’s experience.

Financial – Manages performance for the achievement of planned and expected results through established quarterly benchmarks in the areas of:  (1) OSAT (overall customer satisfaction), (2) sales, (3) shrink, (4) EBIT, (5) DSI, (6) gross margin, (7) labor expense and (8) store team development. 

Merchandising – Partners with store management and merchandising in:

  • Providing timely feedback and escalation of problems or issues preventing execution of plans.
  • Ensuring execution and optimizing operating and merchandising goals.
  • Monitors competitor activities and provides feedback to merchandising team to make recommendations related to local relevance.
  • Provides limited assistance in opening new and remodeled stores utilizing best practice approach.

People Development – Teaches and trains store teams to effectively implement the merchandising and sales plans and Best Methods to include:

  • 5S workplace organization
  • Production, handling and packaging procedures to maintain quality product and freshness.
  • Stocking, display building, backroom standards, sales floor standards.
  • Selection and maintenance of product variety by store within merchandising guidelines.
  • Implementation of plan-o-grams by store case layout and display support.
  • Implementation of stocking methods and data integrity procedures - Implementation of in store coding policy of product to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Order writing to achieve the desired product case / display presentation.
  • Case / display and equipment cleaning / sanitizing methods.

Number of Associates Supervised:     Directly: 0    Indirectly:  Up to 40 stores

Qualifications: 
  • Must have Produce Experience
  • Previous Store Director or Assistant Store Director Experience with P&L exposure and accountability preferred.
  • Demonstrate proven planning, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Analyze/resolve issues independently.
  • Interpersonal and business skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships within the company and in the community.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to train, coach and mentor store management personnel on assigned areas of responsibility
  • Possess basic PC skills and desktop applications.
