This individual will be responsible for maintaining an effective Food Safety Program and will oversee Harvest Machine sanitation.

Note: This position will require travel/relocation to Yuma, AZ for the winter season.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Obeys all Company Safety and Food Safety rules and regulations, working in a safe and legal manner. Requires all personnel to wear required PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) as needed, i.e. gloves, safety glasses or goggles, back brace, etc.
  • Must arrive at the assigned workplace on time and in good mental and physical condition to lead and participate in mandatory daily exercise sessions. Teaches and attends periodic tailgate training meetings and other Company training as directed.
  • Reports all accidents immediately to the Supervisor and Company Safety Representative.
  • Keeps up to date on state/federal requirements (FDA, USDA, CDHS, NOP, etc.) and pest control measures. Completes and files all required reports and documentation.
  • Arranges and participates in Ranch audits with both Buyers and third parties. Company-Buyer liaison.
  • Audits various Food Safety program elements for effectiveness, identifies issues and develops corrective action plans.
  • Continually performs and records Employee and Food Safety tailgate meetings. Oversees annual Food Safety training.
  • Schedules and performs all food safety tests and inspections and approve payment.
  • Maintain Trace Back and Recall systems.
  • Oversee Pre-Harvest inspections and provide Buyers with their required information.
  • Investigates all Food Safety related crop rejections; recommends and/or coordinates corrective actions.
  • Monitor and maintain Organic certification and renewal.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HAACP).
  • Oversees the Harvest Machine Sanitation department, including personnel issues.
  • Permit procurement as necessary, such as but not limited to, any Pesticide Permits, Pest Control/Hunting Permits, (excluding vehicle permits) etc….
  • Monitor and maintain Ag Water Waiver Program.
  • Investigate, apply for and maintain any grant programs that Company may be eligible for, such as but not limited to: Federal, State, County, Utility or Agricultural.
  • Prepares and maintains annual Monterey County Health Dept. Hazardous Material Inventory Forms and Business Response Plans.
  • Prepares and maintains annual MCWRA Well Extraction & Conservation Reports.
  • Keeps up to date on overall activities of the team, identifying problem areas and taking corrective actions.
  • Implement and regulate pesticide reporting for company applied chemicals.
  • Assists with related special projects and performs other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years related experience.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Computer proficient
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions.
  • Ability to perform the physical labor necessary.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of agriculture procedures and positions.
  • Spanish language skills required.
  • Possess a valid Class C driver’s license and be insurable. Class A or Class B license desirable.
