In this position you will be responsible for field recruiting, coordinating recruiting activities, conducting interviews, and making recommendations for hiring drivers. This position also requires coordination of retention and safety functions including on-boarding new drivers, facilitating classroom and hands-on safety training, and managing driver qualification documentation. You will also manage all drivers and equipment.

Responsibilities & Duties: 
  • Develops and maintains adherence to department policies and safety standards as set forth by CFL and DOT.
  • Facilitate safety training as needed in the on-boarding process including classroom and hands-on training.
  • Ensure that CFL is in compliance with all federal and state transportation laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for reporting all Vehicle and Work related injuries.
  • Establish a driver accident reporting system. From point of accident, maintenance department, HR Department, Accounting department to insurance carrier.
  • Work with safety consultant to improve safety program  and setup Safety Procedures for Drivers.
  • Analyze Accidents; preventable /non preventable –for Safety Bonus Review
  • Establishes effective lines of communication and feedback with packing, shipping, and maintenance managers to assure prompt attention and resolution of conditions that adversely affect safe and timely deliveries.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to HOS auditing, DQ maintenance, and accident investigation.
  • Collaborate with the CFL President to create, implement and execute the recruiting strategy with the focus of hiring top quality drivers to support our operation within our multi-state region.
  • Actively recruit drivers through face to face interactions; conducting job fairs; attending truck shows; attending events specific to drivers and other typical recruiting activities to recruit drivers needed.
  • Generate leads through networking, social media, the Internet and other methods.
  • Interview drivers and submit background investigations to ensure compliance with DOT qualifications.
  • Track applicant activity.
  • Perform road tests to ensure driver readiness to meet or exceed company driving standards and aptitude to perform load and unload duties.
  • Maintain good employee relations and adherence to company policy in handling grievances and disciplinary measures where required.
  • Responsible for the motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and personnel and professional growth.
  • Create a productive department through written and verbal communication.
  • Assigns work and ensures personnel are properly instructed in the requirements of each job or task.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to insure trucks are operating in proper and safe working condition.
  • Communication through formal and informal methods, meetings, and internal relationships.
  • With HR department and President conduct probationary and annual performance reviews of department employees and recommend performance increases, retaining, transfer, or termination.
  • Maintain equipment leases to maximize efficiency and control costs.
  • Analyze equipment specs for new equipment. Recommend equipment requirements to CFL President in order to upgrade and maintain productivity and efficiency.
  • Approve bills for equipment and maintenance charges.
  • Handles Equipment Break-Down Procedures
  • Maintain good housekeeping in the department.

The Safety/Operations Manager will at times be required to travel for business purposes to other locations, including out-of-state. 

Education: 

Bachelor's degree or related degree preferred with 3 to 5 years of experience in a related area of Transportation/Logistics or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be willing to be trained and or certified in industry specific training.

Qualifications: 
  • OSHA experienced is preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of the transportation industry including DOT Regulatory Compliance.
  • Safety conscious and capable of delivering driver safety training to experienced / non-experienced recruits and existing drivers
  • Strong proven leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess expert interviewer skills
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Collaborate with senior management and provide accurate objective feedback
  • Ambassador to our corporate culture
  • Able to gain respect of drivers and management
  • Exhibit professionalism with a clean, neat appearance
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and TMS Software
  • Must possess a CDL Class A License
